Lorena Wiebes had an excellent 2025 season that was concluded with three world titles (in gravel and track) in October. In total, the fastest woman in peloton had won 24 road professional races including a Dutch title, among others. Since her crash in madison at the track World Championships in Santiago de Chile, the Dutchwoman mixed rest with light preparation for the upcoming season. However her training was halted today by an annoying incident that fortunately went without serious injuries.
On Tuesday, November 18, the SD Worx – Protime rider set out on a casual training ride near her home in Limburg region. While riding a mountain bike, the Dutchwoman has hit involved in a hit & run with an unknown car. A victim of an unprovoked road rage, Wiebes fortunately walked away with only scratches and bruises, however her bicycle wasn’t as healthy.
Still in disbelief over the events of recent hours, the upset Wiebes sent a message to the individual through her social media: “For the person who hit me and didn’t stop, luckily I’m quite okay but this could be way worse, especially because I got hit from the back.”
While the car driver showed no character (and could be lawfully charged for his behaviour), other bypassers weren’t as indifferent and stopped to check by on Wiebes. The cyclist was thankful for people like them: “Thanks to the 2 persons who stopped to check, I’m okay.” But she was also outraged by the ignorance of some drivers. “It’s even more frustrating when you see how many cyclist get killed by cars…” she concludes.
