Renters across the region having to fork out an extra £288 a month than they were in 2021

Rent prices have soared in this one Greater Manchester area more than anywhere else in the UK over the last four years. The cost to rent a private home has risen by an average of £65 a month across the country over the last year.
It now costs an average of £1,360 a month to rent a typical home in the UK, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics, which has risen by five percent since the previous year. Meanwhile, rents have increased by nearly a third (30 percent) since 2021, when prices were £314 cheaper each month.
Some parts of the country are experiencing much higher rent inflation than others. The cost of renting a home in Greater Manchester has been skyrocketing in recent years, with renters in the region having to fork out an extra £288 a month than they were in 2021.
Those renting in Tameside have seen the largest increase over the last four years, with prices having climbed by a huge 47.3 percent – which is more than any other local authority area in the UK. It now costs £897 a month to rent a private home in the borough, which has gone up by 10.3 percent compared to a year earlier.
Trafford, Manchester, Salford and Stockport have also seen some of the largest rent increases across the country, with prices rising by more than 38 percent in these areas since 2021. Average private rents in Trafford have increased by £372 a month since 2021, in Manchester by £370, in Salford by £338, and in Stockport by £291.
