Police have issued a statement after a teenage girl was reportedly offered a lift when at a bus stop in Oldham over the weekend.
It was reported that the victim had been asked if she wanted to get into an unknown car, being driven by an unknown person, while waiting for a bus in the Saddleworth area. It’s said to have happened in the Dobcross area, but the exact location has not been confirmed.
Greater Manchester Police said the incident is currently under investigation. However, the force said the offer was made ‘during a period of heavy rain’.
A post on social media shared over the weekend claimed the incident happened on Saturday afternoon and that the ‘black SUV’ pulled up at the bus top before she was approached.
In a statement, police said no threats of violence was made and that no violence was caused to anyone in the incident. Enquiries are ongoing currently.
A spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of an incident that a 14-year-old girl was offered a lift by an unknown person driving an unknown vehicle whilst stood at a bus stop in the Saddleworth area during a period of heavy rain.
“This incident remains under investigation. There were no threats of violence, and no violence caused to any person.”
