Having established himself as one of the country’s finest young talents in leading the club’s Academy side to Grand Final glory in 2025 before shining on the team’s post-season tour of Australia, the 17-year-old half-back was catching the eye of several NRL clubs.

However, the club have confirmed that Irwin, who made three first-team appearances during last season, has now penned a five-year deal to keep him at the club until the end of 2030.

Irwin showed glimpses of his prodigious talent in his first senior start at Hull KR in Round 27, setting up two second-half tries, and he has been given squad number 18 for 2026.

Increased first-team involvement appears likely for the teenage talent, but the man himself is focused on improving.

“I’m glad to have committed my future to the cub and I’m really excited for the challenges ahead,” he said.

“It’s a competitive environment, and that’s exactly where you want to be. Academy and reserves level is very strong, but this is a step up now into the first team and I’m looking forward to what’s next.

“I want to take it game by game, put my best foot forward, and see where it takes me.”

Head coach Sam Burgess added: “I’m really excited Ewan’s committed his future to the club for the next five years.

“He’s shown great potential and leadership with the U18s and reserves last year. Hopefully he continues with his progression next season and beyond.

“Above all else he’s an outstanding young man with a bright future ahead of him.”
