Henrik Pedersen has played down the chances of Sheffield Wednesday signing any more players after Liam Cooper, speaking ahead of the Sheffield United derby match on Sunday.

Sheffield Wednesday completed the signing of Liam Cooper this week. The former Leeds United captain arrives as a free agent with SWFC having been given permission by the EFL to sign two free agents.

It comes amid their ongoing struggles off the pitch which has led to problems on the pitch, with the Owls on -4 points and rooted to the foot of the Championship table after Dejphon Chansiri placed Sheffield Wednesday into administration in October.

On Sunday, the Owls host Steel City rivals Sheffield United and Henrik Pedersen spoke to the press on Friday afternoon ahead of the game.

Henrik Pedersen plays down chances of another Sheffield Wednesday transfer

This week, it’s been revealed that free agents Nathan Redmond and Duncan Watmore are training with the SWFC first-team. But speaking to the press on Friday afternoon, Pedersen appeared to play down the chances of another free agent signing after Cooper.

Pedersen suggested that finding free agents at this time of year, who are good enough to improve the team, is a difficult task. However, he confirmed that Sheffield Wednesday are still scouring the market for potential additions.

He said: “We are searching on the market but, [at the] end of November, to find a lot of good options right now who can go in and help a team in the Championship is not the easiest job in the world. Also we are searching players from the football side who can add something but we also have to be sure that it is good humans we are bringing in because we have a fantastic culture in the squad.”

Who is on Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer radar right now?

Redmond was linked with Sheffield Wednesday earlier this week. He’s currently a free agent having been released by Burnley at the end of last season whilst Watmore has been inked with a move to S6 for a while longer.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah is a Sheffield Wednesday transfer target and also a free agent but there appears to be no advances on a potential move for the former Manchester United youngster.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday are trying keep Harry Amass on loan from Manchester United beyond January, with the young left-back having impressed in the first half of the season.

For Pedersen, adding a much Championship experience during this tough run on and off the pitch is going to be vital. Players like Cooper should prove to be a very worthy addition to the side and both Watmore and Redmond could also give the SWFC boss some worthwhile options in attack.

But like the Owls boss says, finding free agents worth a punt at this time of the year is always difficult.
