Edinburgh locals have been spotted braving Friday’s sub-zero temperatures to queue outside viral bakery Lannan.

As the mercury plunged overnight, with temperatures still struggling to rise above 4C during the day so far, most people would seemingly try to stay inside as much as possible.

However, dozens of hardy souls braved the chill and wrapped themselves up to stand outside the popular Stockbridge spot to secure some treats as conditions plummeted below 0C on Friday morning.

Footage taken just along the road from its location on Hamilton Place at around 11.30am shows a long queue stretching from the door right along to the end of the block.

Around 15-20 people can be seen, all wearing various combinations of hats, scarves and coats, huddled as they wait for their turn to enter the bakery.

Lannan has seen crowds descend to sample its baked delicacies, with long queues building up every weekend since it opened in 2023.

Some people have been known to start lining up at 7am to be among the first inside.

In June this year, they brought in a “warden” to manage queues after parents from a nearby primary school complained that the clusters of people on the narrow pavement were causing children to have to walk on the road.

In 2024, they started limiting customers to buying two of each pastry, in another attempt to combat queues building up and popular items selling out before 10am, however this is no longer the case.
