The Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed to drivers and cyclists for one night this week while filming of a “well known” BBC drama gets underway.

The closure will be in place from 7.30pm to 1am on Thursday (November 27), but will not apply to pedestrians.

It is not yet clear which drama is being filmed, with details so far kept under wraps.

A diversion will, however, be in place, using Bridge Valley Road, Brunel Way and A369 Rownham Hill.

A message on the Clifton Suspension Bridge Facebook page last night read: “The Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed to traffic from 7:30pm to 1:00am on Thursday 27 November to allow for some exciting filming for a BBC drama. “A diversion route will be signed, using Bridge Valley Road, Brunel Way and A369 Rownham Hill and Traffic following the official signed diversion routes from the bridge during these times will be exempt from Bristol City Council ’s Clean Air Zone.”

Bridge Master, Trish Johnson, explained: “We are closing the bridge to allow for filming of a well-known drama. The filming will be conducted during the evening to ensure as little disruption to users as possible.

“During this bridge closure pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge, but cycling will be prohibited. Cyclists may dismount and walk across the bridge, but as only one narrow footway will be open, cyclists are requested to avoid using the bridge if possible.

“Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust wishes to apologise for the inconvenience which this closure will cause. We hope that by keeping the road open during rush hour we will minimise the disruption caused.”
