Motorists are being warned to allow plenty of time for journeys to Bristol Airport this afternoon after a crash on the M4 left traffic at a standstill.
Emergency services were called to the incident on the M4 eastbound at about 11.30am today.
Traffic became backed up from junctions 20 to 19, a distance of about five miles.
The AA said traffic on the westbound carriageway was slowing to a queue too because of rubbernecking drivers.
National Highways issued a warning to motorists wanting to get to Bristol Airport via the M4, M5 and M32.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “If you’re using Bristol Airport this afternoon, please allow plenty of journey time.”
All traffic was stopped on the M4 from junction 20 with the M5 and on to junction 15, the Almondsbury Interchange, and to J19, the M32 turn off to Bristol.
Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported the crash shortly before 11.30am, with traffic cameras showing emergency services at the scene.
At the time of writing, two lanes remain closed after traffic was released.

“Traffic has been released after the road was blocked for a short time. Lane one and two (of four) remains closed.”
