Stranger Things creators Ross and Matt Duffer have teased the series’ “most violent death” yet, ahead of its upcoming fifth season. The final chapter of hit Netflix show will wrap up in three parts; arriving on 25 November, 25 December and 31 December.

But which beloved character will fans be mourning in the new year?

The long-awaited finale will hit our screens almost ten years after the first season debuted, back in 2016. Addressing the lengthy breaks between each instalment, the Duffer brothers explained their plan to “scale up” the story as both their audience and characters matured.

“But then we keep getting new audiences. Hopefully parents don’t get too mad at us,” Ross told The Times.

Matt revealed that the upcoming season won’t be as violent as its predecessor, which featured a range of terrifying and brutal incidents as villain Vecna terrorised the town. However, he confirmed that season five will have “the most violent death of any season” to date.

Though the brothers remained tight-lipped about the exact outcome of the show, Matt made it clear that they were prioritising the integrity of the story – meaning some viewers could be left disappointed.

“Every character’s ending needed to feel right. That was more important than providing the fans with the ending they’re hoping for,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, one character that fans have been concerned about is Steve Harrington (played by Joe Keery), whose lack of appearance in the recent trailer didn’t go unnoticed.

Though Steve can be seen in some of the clips, fans feared he may meet a grisly end in the final episodes of the season which will see the gang battle against Vecna for the last time.

“The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time,” teases the synopsis.

Will Vecna claim any more victims before his reign of terror comes to end?

Stranger Things season 5 drops its first part on 25 November, with part 2 on 25 December, and part 3 on 31 December.
