The opposition

Birmingham City have made a solid start to life back in the Sky Bet Championship having eased to the Sky Bet League One title last term.

They’ve collected 24 points from their first 16 games (W7, D3, L6) and are one of several teams jostling for space inside the top six of the division.

Chris Davies’ men will have their sights set on securing a spot in the play-offs come the start of May, and the ownership group invested heavily in the playing squad in the summer to give the 40-year-old the best possible chance of achieving that.

Wednesday’s visitors have been in fine form in front of goal lately, scoring four for the third time in their last four fixtures on Saturday, defeating struggling Norwich City 4-1 at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

Like many teams in the second tier, they’ve had inconsistent results on their travels. Blues have played eight away league games so far in 2025/26 and have won two (Blackburn & Preston North End), drawn one (Wrexham) and lost five (Leicester City, Stoke City, Coventry City, Bristol City and Middlesbrough).

Davies, a former coach at Reading, Celtic, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur, was handed the job in June 2024 – his first senior managerial position. His Blues record is incredibly strong, winning 52 of the 78 games he’s managed in all competitions (D13 & L13).
