As Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh marks its 100th year, music fans have weighed in on some of the most iconic moments in its history.
First opening in 2025, the venue has played host to plenty of memorable gigs since. Supporters were invited to share the moments that made the place special to them – and many spoke of their favourite concerts from over the years.
Based on the memories, Scottish Rugby have put together a top six of some great nights at the stadium, reports the Daily Record. Scottish Rugby Heritage Lead Laura Tinch commented: “Everyone knows Scottish Gas Murrayfield for rugby, but the concerts here have been just as unforgettable.
“From Tina Turner to Beyonce, AC/DC to Take That–and last year’s Taylor Swift record-breakers–hundreds of thousands have made memories on this ground. I know I’m biased, but Murrayfield nights really are amongst the best gigs anywhere in the world.”

1. David Bowie – Serious Moonlight Tour (1983)

This is the concert that started it all and proved Murrayfield could host megastar shows. On June 28, 1983, David Bowie performed hits like ‘Heroes’, ‘Life on Mars?’ and ‘Let’s Dance’ in front of 47,444 lucky fans in a landmark night that set the template for the stadium’s concert future.
2. R.E.M. – Monster World Tour (1995)
Almost 50,000 R.E.M. fans turned out to see the legendary US band on July 27 in 1995, and the gig understandably remains a favourite 30 years on. Iconic Irish rockers The Cranberries provided support ahead of an era-defining set that included ‘Losing My Religion’ and ‘Everybody Hurts’.
3. Tina Turner – Wildest Dreams Tour (1996)
On June 30, 1996, Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll Tina Turner dazzled Edinburgh with a hit-stuffed spectacle that set a benchmark for stadium stardust that many say still hasn’t been topped. ‘The Best’, ‘Nutbush City Limits’, and ‘Private Dancer’ are just a few of the hits that the music legend performed.
4. Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band (2023)

Jumping ahead to May 2023, we find another another sell-out Murrayfield for a multi-generational, high-energy masterclass. ‘Dancing in the Dark’, ‘I’m on Fire’ and ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ were some of the many classics Bruce Springsteen performed in a set that reviewers and fans alike described as “mammoth”.
5. Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour (2024)
Demand was so big for Taylor Swift’s Murrayfield shows in 2024 that capacity had to be increased, with 73,000 people per night packed into the largest stadium gigs in Scottish history. Edinburgh turned glitter-pink as fans swapped friendship bracelets and belted out ‘Love Story’, ‘Cruel Summer’, and more.
6. Oasis – Reunion Tour (2025)
Finally, we come to gigs so big that they literally shook the ground. Noel and Liam Gallagher’s three-night return to Murrayfield 25 years on from Oasis’ last appearance at the stadium resulted in measurable seismic activity.
