Dr Piotr Dusza has been treating residents’ teeth for more than two decades at the Llanidloes Dental Practice near Great Oak Street.

Powys County Council received a planning application in September from Dr Dusza asking for permission to convert an office on a business park on the outskirts of the town into a dental surgery.

A planning statement explained that opening inside Unit 6C at Parc Derwen Fawr, near the A470 trunk road and a 12-minute walk away from Llanidloes Dental Practice, would support Dr Dusza’s ability to maintain the “vital” emergency dental care service for the Llanidloes area.

Powys County Council was also told that establishing a new surgery would “safeguard” the availability of NHS dental care locally while creating capacity for additional services, including private treatments and a future dental hygienist.

“This will help meet increasing demand and minimise the need for residents to travel outside the area for treatment,” the statement added.

Last week, the council approved the proposed conversion of the office into a treatment room, waiting/reception area, and ancillary staff facilities. No objections were raised by Hafren Dyfrdwy and the council’s highways and environmental protection departments.

Powys County Council planning officer Aled Williams gave conditional consent after concluding that the change of use of the office unit to a dental surgery would “not prejudice the existing or future operational use of the surrounding units and is in-keeping with the character of the business park”.
