An Afghani restaurant in Easton, known for serving up a variety of vegan and non-vegan dishes, has launched a fundraiser to try and raise money following a break-in. Tasty Corner, on Oxford Place, has created a GoFundMe page after thousands of pounds worth of equipment was stolen from the premises on October 11.

The local business has been operating just off of Stapleton Road since 2023, with owner Khano Khan having opened it with the aim of providing “a space for cultural assembly, community events and open jams alongside a restaurant which operates a ‘pay what you can’ model”.

In a post to Instagram on October 27, Khano and his team wrote: “We are sad to announce a recent break-in has set winter plans back a step or two. CCTV footage of a hooded figure smashing a bike into the front door has kindly been handed in by a neighbour. There is a list of stolen items that need urgent replacement.”

The GoFundMe page is aiming to raise £2,200 at time of writing, however the restaurant is hoping to raise a total of £8,159 to replace the stolen items and bolster the security at the venue. The items taken during the break-in are listed as including a business tablet, an electric drill belonging to a neighbour, and money from the till.

Khano hopes to invest some of what is raised through fundraising efforts into a new alarm system and CCTV installation, a secure till and safe, and also fixtures and fittings that include outside seating with a canopy, and a replacement door and shutter for the front of the shop. If they surpass their target, Khano says that they will use any extra money to improve the space with better tables and seating inside, a new fridge and coffee machine, and to fix a hot tap on site.

Khano says: “Sadly Tasty Corner was broken into, putting strain on [us] and the future of Tasty Corner is now in the balance. We’re launching this fundraiser so that the business is able to go back to operating as usual and to improve the space so that the community can get better use from Tasty Corner.

“If you aren’t able to donate, please come and visit Tasty Corner and get involved with the space, if you don’t use it you will lose it.”
