A gran was horrified to discover her dog was allegedly mauled in a ‘completely unprovoked’ attack by a pack of Rottweilers. Norma, 86, was in shock after her three-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, Dave, and dogwalker, Ken, were attacked in Edinburgh.
Police were called following the incident which happened at around 11.30am on Friday, November 7. Ken, who was also bitten, said the three Rottweilers were off the lead and ‘unmuzzled’ during the attack in the city’s Colinton Mains Park, reports Edinburgh Live.
Dave was left with serious injuries and was said to be ‘extremely lucky to survive’. Whitney Lindsay, Norma’s granddaughter, has stepped in to help Dave with his recovery as Norma has been left shaken by the incident.
Police confirmed they received reports of a dog and a man being attacked by three dogs. Officers confirmed the dog was left with serious injuries and treated by a vet.

Norma’s granddaughter Whitney said: “My nana absolutely adores Dave. I’ve been having to look after him since the attack as it’s been too distressing for her. She has been lost without Dave.
“Dave was being walked on his lead by his dog walker Ken in Colinton Mains Park and was attacked out of nowhere by three unleashed and unmuzzled Rottweilers. It was completely unprovoked, and Dave suffered extreme injuries. Ken was also bitten.”
Whitney is hoping Dave won’t be ‘too mentally scarred’ by the attack. After reporting the incident to police on November 7, officers visited the family to collect information on November 10.
On November 26, police confirmed enquiries remain ongoing. Whitney is concerned for the welfare of local children, older people, and dogs.
She said: “This incident took place in an open playing field that is bound by a primary school, play areas for young children as well as being in close proximity to sheltered housing. It is also well used by dog owners and walkers, there are a number of vulnerable people at risk.
“People in the area are extremely worried. The owner of the Rottweilers has since been spotted daily walking all three of the dogs at the time with two off lead.
“Clearly no lesson has been learnt and no action has been taken. While it is not the dogs fault, there is a concern for safety in the community.
“I don’t want anyone else to go through something similar or worse.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.45pm on Friday, 7 November, 2025, we received a report of a man and a dog being injured by three other dogs in the Colinton Mains Park area of Edinburgh.
“The dog was treated by a vet for serious injuries. No one was taken to hospital. Enquiries are ongoing.”
