Dutch heavy loads operator Van der Vlist has strengthened UK–EU freight links with the deployment of a new oversized loads lorry built specifically for UK roads.

The purpose-built DAF XF 530, equipped with a 65-tonne sliding fifth wheel, expands the company’s capacity to handle semi-low-loaders, heavy machinery and unaccompanied trailers moving between UK ports and mainland Europe.

Based in Hull, the new truck enhances Van der Vlist’s ability to integrate UK arrivals directly into its wider European network, providing greater control over scheduling and equipment availability.

Vote of confidence

The move is a clear vote of confidence in EU-UK relations, coming as operators continue to navigate post-Brexit customs processes and border-related delays, making dedicated UK assets increasingly valuable for maintaining reliable cross-channel transport.

Van der Vlist says the investment responds to rising demand from sectors such as construction, manufacturing and heavy industry, where oversized cargo must move seamlessly between UK sites and continental production or assembly locations.

The addition also reinforces the operator’s commitment to maintaining stable and resilient heavy-haulage corridors across the Channel. With abnormal loads subject to strict routing, escorting and compliance requirements on both sides, the new truck gives the company more flexibility to support customers requiring precise, time-critical transport of large or complex machinery.
