Customers have been left heartbroken after a popular café in Bolton announced it will be closing its doors for good at the end of this year.
Rainy’s, located at Deakins Park off Blackburn Road, Egerton, will be shutting for good after 16 years in business. Owner, Lorraine Ruane, took to social media to share the “sad, but happy” news.
Known for offering freshly baked cakes, brownies, cookie dough, and waffles, Lorraine’s business began with her passion for making cheesecakes, a self-taught hobby that quickly became her signature and a foundation of the café loved by people across Bolton.
Sharing the sad news this week, Lorraine wrote on Instagram: “After 16 years, this beautiful chapter is coming to an end. Rainys will be closing the door for the very last time on at the end of Dec 2025. I’m so incredibly grateful to you all… truly, from the bottom of my heart.
“You have supported me throughout the past 16 years and I know you will support me through these final weeks. Thus will be your ‘last’ time you will be able to get your Christmas orders! your last Christmas Eve boxes! And your last sprinkle cake!

“I have loved being part of your lives and watching the kids grow up… We built such a wonderful, warm community together… one I will cherish forever. I seriously love you all and will miss you so, so much. But I’m also so excited for my new beginnings.
“How did I last 16 years??? I know exactly how – because of YOU. I will announce my final day soon. We’ll have a family fun day to celebrate, I promise more info to come.! I’m sad… but also incredibly excited for the future.
“Thank you for every memory! With love and thanks, Lorraine xx”
