Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale’s Kerry Wyatt is left horrified next month when she discovers that she has been caught up in Eric Pollard’s latest financial scheme. She rages at her long-time pal as she finds out about his criminal plot, but could this mark the end of their friendship?
At the start of the week, Kerry gets the shock of her life when it comes to her attention that a new bank account has been set up under her name – containing a whopping £15,000. She is initially overjoyed by her random windfall and is desperate to splash the cash, but Jacob Gallagher quickly brings her back down to earth.
The trainee doctor sensibly points out that if Kerry spends this mystery money, she could be implicating herself in someone’s fraudulent ploy. But it isn’t long before Jacob tells his grandad about Kerry’s dilemma, and Eric is alarmed when he realises that his sneaky plan has been exposed.
Pollard waits until he and Kerry are alone, before answering her questions and breaking the news that he is her anonymous benefactor.

“Kerry is stunned and confused by Eric’s revelation,” our Emmerdale insider reveals. “But as the conversation continues, she soon gathers exactly what he’s done – he’s gone behind her back and used her to siphon tax-free money to Jacob. Kerry’s furious that her mate has done this without her consent, and her fierce reaction leaves Eric heartbroken.”
“Eric is left red-faced over Kerry’s discovery,” our source adds. “It’s a complete betrayal, and Kerry doesn’t react well to learning the truth. But things aren’t quite as they seem, and there’s an emotional reason behind Pollard’s actions…”
Eric attempts to appeal to Kerry by explaining just why he has resorted to these underhand tactics. He reminds her that seemingly expectant father Jacob could face a very uncertain future, with a child to provide for alone if Sarah Sugden tragically dies at a young age.
Of course, we know full well that Charity is actually carrying her own child rather than Sarah and Jacob’s. But Eric remains unaware of this, so just wants to guarantee that his grandson won’t have to worry about putting food on the table. His rationale for this scheme is thankfully enough to smooth things over with Kerry…

“Kerry can’t help but sympathise with Eric’s situation,” shares our spy. “As his Parkinson’s disease progresses, he wants to make sure Jacob is looked after when he’s gone.
“It was only ever meant to be a kind gesture, but he’s just gone about it in completely the wrong way. Kerry forgives Eric and vows to stand by him, but that’s not the only thing she agrees to…”
As they make friends, Kerry reminds Pollard that she will happily help him with anything – as long as he asks her about it first. Will Kerry be an important ally for Eric as things get tough?
These scenes air on Tuesday 9 December and Wednesday 10 December. Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
