Two new yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for Greater Manchester. The forecaster has issued a yellow warning for ice from 10pm this evening (Saturday). The warnings covers our entire region, as well as parts of the East Midlands, North East England, West Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber and other parts of the north west.

The Met Office has warned that icy stretches could ’cause some disruption’ tonight and up until the warning ends at 9am on Sunday morning. Temperatures are likely to drop to below freezing overnight.

The forecaster said: “Following rainfall earlier in the evening, surface temperatures are expected to fall widely below freezing. With surfaces left wet, ice is expected to form on untreated surfaces and may lead to hazardous travelling conditions.”

Another yellow weather warning for rain has also been issued for our region on Monday. This comes into force at midnight at Monday and will last until 3am on Tuesday.

Forecasters predict the downpours could cause disruption, with ‘flooding of a few homes and businesses likely’. Some disruption is also expected on the roads, and on trains and buses.

The Met Office said: “An area of heavy rain will move steadily east across the area during Monday. “Whilst the rain may ease for a time during the afternoon across Cumbria, another pulse of heavy rain is possible here during the evening and overnight, with all rain eventually clearing early Tuesday morning.

“20-40 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely across the warning area, but higher ground could see 50-80 mm, with perhaps nearer 100-120 mm in a few places over the Cumbrian fells.

“Strong south to southwesterly winds will also accompany the heavy rain, with gales possible around coasts and over high ground.”

The rain warning also affected parts of the East Midlands, the Yorkshire and Humber and other parts of the North West.
