A devastated Balvinder Sopal was ‘left in tears’ on camera during Saturday night’s Strictly Come Dancing, having made a costly mistake in her latest routine. And she also made a very telling remark about being in the dance-off again, having already survived it four times so far this series.
Having been the favourite to leave over consecutive weeks, EastEnders actress Balvinder defied the odds to make it to Blackpool last weekend and do the dance she’d been so desperate to do, the Argentine Tango. There was no elimination last weekend, with the scores instead carried over to this week, as Balvinder and pro partner Julian Caillon returned to the dancefloor to do a jive to Right Back Where Started From.
The performance got off to a great start, before things then went wrong half way through the number, with Balvinder’s footwork suffering and her then apologising to Julian when the music ended. Sadly for Balvinder, the errors didn’t go un-noticed by the judges, including Shirley allas, who said that she had been thinking she was going to give a 9 before things went awry.
As Anton Du Bake also mentioned the mistakes, Balvinder replied: “It’s alright, I’ll come back and do it again in the dance-off,” with her seeming convinced she’d be back in the bottom two once again before the weekend is over. After getting their comments from the judges, Balvinder and Julian headed up to join host Claudia Winkleman elsewhere in the studio and it was then that Balvinder apologised to Julian for a second time, as she said: “He’s worked really hard with me to get it all right an I just feel really….because we’ve done it really well we have,” before she started crying and Julian leant in to hug her.
Despite the errors in the number, Balvinder and Julian still got 28 out of 40 from the judges, which put them ahead of bottom couple Alex Kingston and Johannes Radebe, who also suffered from a few mishaps in their performances and got just 23, including a 4 from Craig Revel-Horwood.
