Millie Bobby Brown has reprised the role that made her so famous this week as Stranger Things returned to Netflix. The fifth and final season of the smash hit coming-of-age show is upon us, as the four new episodes arrived on the streaming platform this week.
A further three episodes will drop on Christmas Day before the series comes to a close with a special finale on New Year’s Eve. Millie has grown up on the show, as she first debuted as Eleven in 2016. The show has captured the hearts of the world as it has explored the character’s blossoming friendship with a group of friends in Hawkins, Indiana, as they battle against government conspiracies and supernatural forces.
Away from the screen, Millie enjoys a close connection to Merseyside and was in the region as recently as April. The 21-year-old made the journey to Anfield on the day Liverpool FC clinched the league title with a 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The actress posed alongside another famous Liverpool fan with Netflix Adolescence star Owen Cooper. Millie is a big Liverpool FC fan and has been open about her love for the Reds.
During a press tour for Enola Holmes in 2022, she took a lie detector test for Vanity Fair when she addressed her love for Liverpool FC. The presenter asked if Millie wished people would stop making 11 jokes at her when she revealed she wished she would be associated with the number eight instead.
She added: “It’s the number of my favourite soccer team player. Steven Gerrard.” Millie previously told the club’s official website about how she fell in love with the team because of the legendary captain.
She said: “My family have been big supporters and fans since I was very young.
“So I started to love them gradually and watching the games to kind of understand what everyone was doing, and my brother was a big part of that. He started telling me about Steven Gerrard when he was playing and I started falling in love. So it was a big moment in my life.”
The star grew up in Bournemouth, but she holds a close place in her heart for Merseyside. The actress has appeared on an episode of YouTube talk show Hot Ones and told host Sean Evans she would like to see the Scouse accent get more coverage in Hollywood.
She said: “I love a Liverpudlian accent. I can’t do the accent so don’t ask me but I support the football team.”
The first four episodes of Stranger Things season five are available to watch on Netlix now.
