Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner, says the Eagles will “try to learn” from Thursday’s 2-1 defeat to Strasbourg in the Conference League.

Palace missed plenty of good chances and were punished by a more clinical Strasbourg side.

Despite this, Glasner believes Palace will learn from the defeat in Strasbourg.

“I don’t think it’s the most disappointed that I have felt since I’ve been here, but definitely this season a little bit”, claimed Glasner.

“On the other hand, we have to accept it because the effort was there, but it’s a game we shouldn’t definitely lose, but like always, we try to learn from it.

“I think this is also the experience we get the first time this year, having this rhythm, playing international football, so we could see that this is everywhere we go, it’s maybe one of the matches of the season.

It just shows how much it means for this club, and then of course everybody is playing on their top level, highly motivated.

“We were talking about it before: we always have to match this motivation, because the small margins decide it, and yesterday it looked like we didn’t match the motivation on the same level, maybe a few percentage less, and that’s why we lost at the end.

First of all, it is not talking too much about it, because if we are always talking about the problem, it gets bigger and bigger, so players have a huge effort to create these chances.

It feels a little bit like now, like at the beginning of last season when we [hit the] post, I remember a few situations, [hit the] post [and the ball bounces] out, hitting the post like yesterday and then running across the goal line. This is one centimetre, and for me, it is not just about the quality or not, it is also like, do you deserve it?’

And when we saw yesterday [Thursday], to be honest, we are talking about it, Strasbourg is a very intense team, the most intense team in the French League.

“We said we have to match this intensity, and we didn’t. So they were better than us, and I think that is why they got the reward.

‘They hit the post, and the ball drops next to their player [for their winner], and we hit it, and it runs along the goal line and out.

“We had the same situation last year, and I think it is now, to deserve it more and maybe to invest a little bit more in the basics, and then we will get all these goals.

“When you see us, the goals we should score in the Premier League, we are still top three in the league, creating almost most of the biggest chances. We miss most of the chances there as well, but for us it is to create these opportunities to score goals, and then it will happen.’
