More than 9,000 cannabis plants have been discovered in Birmingham – believed to be ‘one of the biggest drug farms ever discovered’.
The plants were discovered at a property in Grove Lane, Lozells, on November 19, with the horde having an estimated street value of £9.5 million, according to West Midlands Police (WMP).
Five men – aged between 37 and 21 – were arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

It’s believed the drugs factory was a central supply hub to other cannabis farms in the area, with the raid denting a big blow to the illegal drugs trade.
A total of 9,488 plants, at various stages of growth, were found including hundreds of baby plants for distribution.

The suspects were also arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of a Class B drug before being released.
Photographs issued by West Midlands Police showed a huge hydroponic set-up inside the address.
Sergeant Harj Cheema, from the Cannabis Disposal Team at WMP, said the find resulted in a ‘major supply network being disrupted’.
A WMP spokesperson said: “We seized more than 9,000 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £9.5 million from a property in Lozells.
“We made five arrests after discovering the huge haul, which is believed to be one of the biggest cannabis plant seizures ever within our force.
“In total 9,488 plants, at various stages of growth, were seized from a property on Grove Lane on 19 November.
“It was clearly a central supply factory to other cannabis farms due to the large amount of propagators, which contained hundreds and hundreds of baby plants for distribution.

“Five men, one aged 37, one aged 36, two aged 32 and a 21-year-old, were arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of offences including cultivating cannabis, burglary and possessing a Class B drug.
“They have since been bailed as our investigations continue.”
Sgt Cheema added: “This was an absolutely fantastic outcome for our team.
“A major supply network has been disrupted which would have supplied cannabis across the West Midlands area.”
