Merkur Slots Spain has entered Spain’s hospitality installation segment for the first time through the acquisition of eleven arcades in the Basque Country from Operjoku S.L.U.
The deal also includes taking over the operation of gaming machines in 108 bars previously serviced by Operkale S.L.U., a company known for machine placements in gastronomy across northern Spain. The transaction was carried out together with Spanish distributor Merkur Dosniha.
The move adds around 50 new employees to Merkur Group’s business in the country.
Headquartered in Palma de Mallorca, the subsidiary continues to handle Merkur’s operations across several Spanish regions.
“Spain is a market of great importance and long-term potential for the Merkur Group. This acquisition clearly underlines that,” said Meik Sellenriek, Management Board Member, Merkur Operations at Merkur.com AG.
Dominik Raasch, Management Board Member, Merkur Games at Merkur.com AG, added that both the arcade and bar offerings create advantages for different Merkur divisions. According to him, it allows the company to introduce its gaming machines and titles across its own facilities in the Basque Country, which he described as one of Spain’s most economically strong areas.
Merkur Group currently employs more than 15,000 staff globally and runs 28 venues in Spain. Outside the newly acquired arcades in the Basque Country, the company already has properties in Palma de Mallorca, Madrid, Navarre, and Cantabria. Its latest activity continues the group’s international expansion plans on the Iberian Peninsula.
