New PS5 Firmware Update Available from Today, Here's What It Does 1 Image: Push Square

Sony is in the process of launching a new PS5 firmware update globally, although you may not have access to it yet.

The platform holder says that version 25.08-12.40.00 will deploy in a “phased release”, so it may take a little time to appear in your region.

Fortunately, you’re not missing out on a massive amount, as this is one of the manufacturer’s famous “stability” updates.

Here are the patch notes:

  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.

As we don’t have access to the update yet, we’re not sure on the file size, but we’ll update as and when we know more.

It’s a good idea to keep your console in Rest Mode so you can download and install the new firmware while you’re not playing, thus minimising disruption.

Have you been prompted to install the new update yet? Is there anything in particular you’d like Sony to add to the console? Let us know below.
