Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman’s dark comedy The Roses has found a new streaming home on Disney+. The film, which is a remake of 80’s hit The War of the Roses sees the British favourites play a perfect couple whose marriage begins to crumble before things get very, very messy.
Cumberbatch and Colman star as Theo and Ivy Rose, a wealthy couple and parents to twins who appear to have it all. But when Theo’s career as an architect begins to nosedive just as Ivy’s new restaurant takes off, their marriage breaks down, bringing out their toxic sides.
The Roses also features an all-star supporting cast including Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa, Barbie’s Kate McKinnon, Stath Lets Flats’ Jamie Demetriou, The Diplomat’s Allison Janney, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Andy Samberg.
Released earlier this year, Digital Spy gave the film a four star review, hailing it as “one of the funniest movies of 2025″ and adding: “It’s an unmissable chance to see two of Britain’s greats on top form in a war of words where the real winner is the audience.”
In their review, the Seattle Times described The Roses as “an excellent version of the movie it sets out to be,” while TIME Magazine wrote: “The Roses is funny, but there’s something piercing about it too”.

Searchlight Pictures
Of course the two leads are the film’s main draw, with The Observer writing: “Colman and Cumberbatch are sublimely well matched. We adore them as a couple almost as much as we enjoy them as the bitterest of foes.”
Meanwhile, Cumberbatch will next be seen in Guy Ritchie’s all-star ensemble comedy Wife & Dog.
While not much is know about the film yet, Cumberbatch has revealed he’ll be playing a very different character to his usual type, describing it as a “Tom Hardy, Jason Statham type role”.
