There have been complaints of ‘fires and trash’ on Perry Park

Travellers have been given a deadline to leave a Birmingham park following reports of “anti-social behaviour.”

A convoy of caravans drove near to a games court in Perry Park, off Church Road, in Perry Barr, around a fortnight ago.

Since their arrival, there have been claims of ‘rubbish, fires being lit and damage caused to fences’ in the area.

Perry Barr Councillor Jon Hunt said the situation was “escalating badly” and the group had been “served notice to move on Monday.”

He claims fences had been broken and people were “moving on all the time.”

A park visitor said: “Trash, food scraps, children’s things, diapers, and old clothes are scattered throughout the park.

“And there’s more trash every day.

“They drift cars across the grass, and the grass is covered in drift marks.”

The visitor said there were fire pits and added: “The park is in a sad state, it’s impossible to walk there anymore.”

birmingham-city-council>Birmingham City Council had said previously: “The council is committed to actively protecting its land and will take steps to recover this land where unauthorised encampments encroach upon it.”

The site, which is close to Alexander Stadium, has suffered multiple incursions from travellers over the years with caravans taking over a car park used by contractors.

Gates and other measures had been installed by the council but it has not stopped the influx of camps.
