The Duke of Sussex cracked jokes about US President Donald Trump during a surprise appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Harry featured in a comedy skit that was broadcast on Wednesday evening, portraying himself as he tries out to become a Hallmark film “Christmas prince”. During the segment, the duke strolled around the studio, quipping that he had got lost whilst looking for an audition for the “Gingerbread Christmas Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska”.

Colbert questioned why an actual prince would wish to star in such productions, leading Harry to respond: “You Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies, and you’re clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not?”

When Colbert challenged the notion of an American “obsession,” Harry wisecracked: “Really? I hear you elected a king,” in what appeared to be a nod to the “No Kings” demonstrations aimed at the Trump administration.

Alluding to CBS’ recent settlement with Mr Trump, the duke jested that he would “do anything” to land the role, stating: “I’ll record a self-tape, I’ll fly myself to an audition, settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House – all the things you people in TV do.”

Colbert responded: “Hey, I didn’t do any of those things,” to which Harry retorted: “Maybe that’s why you’re cancelled.”

The skit then evolved into a festive display, with trees materialising and sleigh bells chiming as Harry encouraged Colbert to “just believe”. Colbert later announced to Harry that he had secured the position of “official Late Show prince of Christmas”, much to the delight of the audience.

The duo initially hinted at the guest appearance in a video released on Wednesday, which included a viral soundbite from the Great British Bake Off. Joining Colbert were other esteemed guests, including Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon and Irish actress-cum-singer Jessie Buckley.

This marks the Duke’s second appearance on the Late Show, with his previous visit taking place in January 2023 to promote his memoir, Spare. Harry’s debut on the show set a two-year viewership record and garnered international media attention.

The Duchess of Sussex also shared news of Wednesday night’s appearance, offering a sneak peek of the clip on her Instagram story. Since announcing their decision to step back as working members of the Royal family in January 2020, Harry and Meghan have been raising their children in Montecito, California.
