Police have arrested a man following a string of robberies in Co Down

The 30-year-old man was detained on suspicion of burglary on Friday after the Newcastle area was hit by a number of similar incidents over the course of a month.

On December 3, officers received a report at around 12.10am of a male intruder entering a commercial site in the Carrigs Road area.

After conducting further enquiries, a man was taken into custody on December 5 and was later released pending further enquiries.

PSNI Sergeant Gracey said: “We believe that the person arrested today was also involved with a number of similar incidents which took place in the Carrigs Road area over recent weeks. These include the theft of a sum of money on Sunday, 2nd November, where the front door of the premises was also damaged.
