Huge queues formed in Edinburgh as thousands flocked to the Christmas Markets on Saturday. The city centre was branded ‘absolute hell’ by those who waited in massive lines on December 6.
Clips from the queue show people waiting on Waverley Bridge to get into the popular festive attraction. Ellie Quinn shared a post on TikTok that has over 630,000 views and 16,000 likes.
Ellie posted to TikTok: “If you’re thinking of going to Edinburgh Christmas Market.. at peak time… on a Saturday! Absolute hell.”
One of her followers commented: “I live in town and I can barely get out my front door, it’s genuinely terrifying.”
Another added: “It’s like a cattle market, a really bad cattle market.”
A third posted: “Love Edinburgh – but nope, don’t love this.”
Aside from lengthy queues, those heading to the markets in Edinburgh have also been ‘tormented’ by one of the rides. One attraction elevates market-goers high above the ground, nearly level with the top of the Scott Monument on Princes Street.
Their feet can be seen dangling above buses and tiny specks of pedestrians far below. One video posted to TikTok reads: “POV” you paid £13.50 to get tormented in Edinburgh”.
Despite this, Which? ranked Edinburgh second in their rankings of the best markets in the country. They wrote: “You could argue that nowhere embraces the festive season quite so wholeheartedly as Edinburgh, with the smell of mulled wine (and the sound of delighted screams from fairground rides) present from the East to the West of the city centre, giving it a uniquely Christmassy feel.”
