The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for Greater Manchester.
The alert will come into effect at midnight on Monday, 8 December, and last until 3pm on Tuesday, 9 December.
The UK’s national weather service predicts that “outbreaks of rain will become persistent and heavy on Tuesday morning, before clearing into the afternoon.”
They add: “Accumulations of 20-40 mm are likely over some hills, with up to 80 mm possible over high ground in Cumbria.
“Given the saturated nature of the ground, this is likely to lead to some flooding in places and transport disruption. Rain will also be accompanied by strengthening south to south-westerly winds, with gusts in excess of 60 mph possible over high ground, which may exacerbate impacts, especially on routes across the Pennines.”
The heavy rainfall could bring some flooding and travel disruption to the affected areas.

The Met Office has issued the following advice to people living in these areas:

- Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
- People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
- Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.
The outlook for much of December remains unsettled, with further areas of low pressure expected to bring more wet and windy weather.
While it’s too early to provide details for Christmas, early speculation suggests snow could fall across half of the country from 20 December onwards.
Weather warnings have also been issued for parts of southwest England, parts of Wales and Northern Ireland over the next few days.
The Met Office has warned that more than half a month’s rainfall could hit some parts of the UK in a single day.
