If you’ve spent any time in the Netherlands or Belgium, you might already know Frites Atelier

Or at the very least, you’ll have clocked the queues snaking out the door. Now the cult fry shop is finally coming to London, opening in the old Balans Soho site on Old Compton Street in Soho.

The brand is the creation of three-Michelin-starred Dutch chef Sergio Herman, and in their own words, the chips are “F**ing Perfect.” Expect hand-cut, double-fried frites, served with sauces like truffle mayo, piccalilli, and spicy andalouse, plus loaded options including Spicy Royal Rendang, Old Flemish Beef Stew, and Vegan Chilli Con Queso. Everything is made in-house, and the menu doesn’t stop at fries — there’ll be burgers and croquettes too.

Oh, and the frites come with suggested booze pairings including champagne, which reminded us of Heard, the burger-and-fries spot from two-Michelin-star chef Jordan Bailey. Frites Atelier also joins a growing list of Michelin-star chefs spinning out more casual concepts, from Adam Byatt’s Outside by Trinity serving sandwiches in Clapham to Spring Street Pizza by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kemble… and, well, we won’t mention that BK one.
