The rumour mill is heating up again after a couple of months off, with the January transfer window in sight and Leeds United are expected to be busy in the upcoming window.

Robbie Evans’ concerns about PSR and that one more signing would push Leeds into the red and risk a points deduction next season have evaporated. LeedsUnited.News understands there is PSR room.

Leeds United’s PSR position made clear…

“This summer, we spent everything we could. Unequivocally, we are maxing PSR out this season. If we had gone on to other targets [on deadline day], the consequences would have been seen in the current roster. More key players from last season would have had to go.”

Plenty of players have been linked with moves to Elland Road ahead of the January window. Over the weekend, Fabrizio Romano claims Leeds made an approach to Serie A side Como for Martin Baturina.

That has been blocked, but Leeds are making moves and a report from The Mail claims Leeds are after a midfielder north of the border. However, they face competition from Premier League rivals Forest.

The report claims that Leeds and Sean Dyche’s Forest have both made enquiries to sign Hibernian star Josh Mulligan. The 23-year-old only joined Hibernian from Dundee in the summer, but has started well.

Largely a defensive midfielder, Mulligan has already had a hand in six goals during 24 appearances for Hibernian this season. His form has even encouraged Steve Clarke to call him up for Scotland recently.

There is a good chance Mulligan is in Scotland’s World Cup squad next summer, even though he is yet to win a Scotland cap. The Mail say that Forest are leading the way, and Leeds are keeping tabs on Mulligan.

‘Outstanding’ verdict and Josh Mulligan’s likeness John McGinn

Over the weekend, after a 3-0 win over Falkirk in which Mulligan laid on an assist, Hibernian manager David Gray was effusive in his praise for the midfielder, describing the Scottish ace as “outstanding”.

“I asked the players to do at the start of the game and trying to get on the front foot, I think Josh Mulligan certainly led by example on that front. I thought he was outstanding actually in the first half.”

Given his form for Hibernian since his move from Dundee, Mulligan’s tenacious style of play has seen him compared to Aston Villa captain John McGinn. McGinn moved to England from Hibernian, for £3.25m.

Clearly, Hibs know how to mould a good midfielder and while Mulligan is a not a product of the Easter Road academy, he is certainly coming to the fore in green and white. He could be a future gem for Leeds.
