The King will release a special video message on Friday night in which he will “reflect on his own recovery journey” from cancer and “stress the importance” of screening programmes.

Charles, who was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in 2023, has recorded a message as part of Stand Up To Cancer 2025, a joint campaign by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4.

The King’s message will be broadcast on the channel at 8pm as part of a series of programmes to raise awareness of cancer research and encourage people to attend screening programmes.

A palace spokesman said the King’s message comes at the end of a week-long campaign which “aims to drive awareness of the importance of early diagnosis, raises funding for cancer research and supports all those affected by the illness”.

Viewers on Channel 4 will also see a live broadcast from a cancer clinic at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, hosted by Davina McCall, the television presenter who last month revealed that she had undergone surgery for breast cancer.

The annual Stand Up To Cancer campaign has launched an online screening checker (screeningchecker.co.uk) which helps users determine which breast, bowel and cervical screening programmes they may be eligible for, provides information from Cancer Research UK and directs users to further support.

Since his own diagnosis, the King has met fellow cancer patients and shared advice.

In March, during a visit to Northern Ireland, the King said: “What’s that Winston Churchill saying? Keep buggering on.”

His comments came as he visited a cancer research laboratory at Ulster University in Coleraine. He asked patients if they were managing to “survive the side effects alright” and commiserated: “You just have to push on, don’t you?”
