Leeds have three weeks until the winter transfer window opens on Thursday 1st January.

New signings are not as desperately needed as they seemed to be three weeks ago, after the implementation of a 3-5-2 under Daniel Farke caused Pep Guardiola problems and breathed new life into the season.

Nevertheless, one or two improvements to the squad wouldn’t go amiss with Leeds currently just two points above the bottom three, and those within Elland Road certainly sound alert to opportunities.

They claim that sources close to Elland Road have told them Leeds expect there will be opportunities to sign players who are disillusioned and unsettled at their current club, and in search of more game time.

It strongly suggests the 49ers are ready to make new signings despite PSR issues caused by a £100m summer spending spree, and while Leeds Live failed to name anybody, there are two players who firmly fit into the category of being unsettled.

Should Leeds follow Nottingham Forest’s path and risk a points deduction? 💸

“This summer, we spent everything we could. Unequivocally, we are maxing PSR out this season. If we had gone on to other targets [on deadline day], the consequences would have been seen in the current roster. More key players from last season would have had to go.”

Leeds Live update suggests Kalvin Phillips or Raheem Sterling could genuinely move to Elland Road

Before Leeds Live released that brief comment from sources, the Mirror claimed that Leeds had made an approach to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City – with Sportsboom then stating that Raheem Sterling is a target too amid his banishment at Chelsea.

Neither of the England internationals have played a single second of Premier League football so far this season, and are keen to get their careers back on track.

Therefore, the comment from Leeds Live could point to the 49ers making moves for either Phillips or Sterling, if not both – depending on how cooperative Manchester City and Chelsea will be.

The pair earn £250,000-a-week and £325,000-a-week respectively, so Leeds will surely need the UEFA Champions League sides to help them cover these enormous salaries.

Phillips and Sterling have shone for England together in the past, so if Leeds can find a way to sign both this winter, it could prove decisive in the battle against relegation.
