A street was cordoned off in a North Wales village after a suspected mortar shell was found.

The alert was raised yesterday in the village of Acrefair, in Wrexham.

Residents say they understood the “bomb” was found by a telecoms engineer during routine work.

Police were called and the bomb disposal unit was sent.

A cordon was placed around the site.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: “Shortly before 12.30pm today we received a call reporting a suspicious item found close to Chapel Street, Acrefair.
