A woman has become the first person in the UK to win a legal battle using an AI “law firm.”
The healthcare worker, who had a stellar performance record, felt helpless when bosses placed her on a Performance Improvement Plan. Unable to afford a solicitor, she turned to Grapple Law – the UK’s only legal practice for individuals fully operated by bots. In just a few weeks, her case was resolved and she won £30,000 – without a tribunal or human lawyer in sight.
Speaking of the groundbreaking result, she said: “I was terrified of the financial impact of losing my job and felt completely outmatched by my employer’s legal team. I had no idea how to represent myself.

“The relief was instant. The AI helped me understand I had a strong case and turned my scattered thoughts into a clear, compelling grievance and without-prejudice letter. The outcome was truly empowering. I cried with relief. It has given me the space to recover, care for my family, and move forward toward a new job on my own terms. It helped me reclaim my strength.”
People in need of legal assistance can visit Grapple’s website and instantly start chatting to an AI assistant. The bot asks users to outline the problem and upload evidence before it explains your rights. It will then draft and send legal letters.
Grapple Law – which is currently free to use – can deal with any legal query from getting a refund from an airline to family law issues. Last night CEO Alex Monaco said: “This case feels like a true turning point – not just for Grapple, but for the future of law. This is the first time in the UK – and potentially worldwide – that an AI has negotiated a settlement on behalf of an individual, and that’s unbelievably exciting.

“Businesses have been using AI behind closed doors for years, but this is the first time the power of this technology has genuinely been placed back in the hands of the public. For me, this is proof of concept – proof that it works. It’s the result of five years of hard work, and it shows what becomes possible when ordinary people finally have access to fast, affordable, effective legal support without the barrier of upfront fees.
“Most importantly, we helped someone vulnerable who had done nothing wrong and was being treated unfairly by a well-resourced corporation. That’s why I became a lawyer. Seeing justice placed directly at people’s fingertips – for free or very low cost – could be a complete shift in how law is done. It means that justice is no longer reserved only for those who can afford expensive lawyers. Grapple changes that.”
