A man has been arrested after armed cops swooped on a property in Glasgow and residents were evacuated from their homes. Officers attended Drumlaken Street in the city’s Summerston at around 9.50am on Monday December 15.

Specialist resources, including firearms officers, scrambled to the scene as a precaution after the disturbance. Roads were closed and nearby residents were forced to leave their properties for nearly 10 hours.

Later on Monday, police confirmed a 56-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing. Locals had taken shelter in a community centre, but at around 7.15pm Glasgow City Council advised on social media they were able to return to their homes.

Images showed a large emergency response in the area. One picture showed a police cordon, taping off part of the street with two police cars parked nearby, and a uniformed officer standing guard.

Another showed a firefighter at the scene holding a torch as darkness fell. A fire appliance could also be seen with a large amount of emergency service officers standing in front of the vehicle.

Sergeant Jono Adams said: “I’d like to thank the local community for their support and patience while officers were in attendance. While enquiries remain ongoing, there is no longer disruption to the area and no wider risk to the public.”

A council spokesperson said: “Residents displaced from properties on Drumlaken St, Summerston, should now be able to return home. The temporary rest centre at Bellcraig Community Centre has now closed.”
