π Sheffield Wednesday v Derby Form & Stats
Sheffield Wednesday are still searching for a second win this season. Their only win was back in September away at Portsmouth, which means that home fans are still waiting to see their team win a match on home turf this season. They were so close to another win last time out at Watford until Vivaldo Semedo broke Wednesday’s hearts with a 97th-minute equaliser.
The leveller was fully deserved for Watford though, as they had piled the pressure on. Watford ended up winning the shot count 23-4, this has become a fairly common pattern in Wednesday games, but in fairness, the last home match against Preston bucked that trend as they outshot and won the xG battle against Preston North End, yet still lost the match.
Derby have lost some momentum, which may be linked to Carlton Morrisβ absence. They have won one of their last five, including two losses and a draw in their last three matches.
This leaves Derby in 16th with a perfectly even record, seven points off the play-offs and eight away from the bottom three. A win puts them back in the top half. However, their expected points position is 23rd, so they have been massively overperforming their data. This happens from being effective in both boxes, which isn’t helped by the loss of top goalscorer Carlton Morris.
