When the transfer window slammed shut in the summer, Leeds United fans were disappointed. Not with the signings that were made, but with the inability to add to the 10 additions brought in.

Leeds spent north of £100m and according to managing director Robbie Evans, any more new additions and the club would have been in danger of exceeding PSR. Harry Wilson ended up staying at Fulham.

A colossal blow, especially given his stunning form and that Wilson is about to sign a new deal now, ending any future hope of his arrival at Elland Road. But, the 10 signings Leeds did make, are working.

At least, a solid six or seven of them are. Jaka Bijol is finally finding his feet, Gabi Gudmundsson and Sean Longstaff have been consistently good, Noah Okafor is a threat and Lukas Nmecha has surprised many.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in elite company 🔥⚽

Only two players in Europe’s top 5 leagues have scored in the last 4 games

Adam Underwood never saw Dominic Calvert-Lewin form coming

Nmecha was only signed as a back-up striker by Farke, but he has four goals this season and had netted three in three before a disallowed goal against Chelsea and an injury sustained in the 3-1 Elland Road win.

But Graham Smyth reckons no one saw Calvert-Lewin’s form coming. Already, Calvert-Lewin has scored more this season for Leeds than he managed in two of his last three seasons at Everton. He is on fire.

So much so, there is talk of an England call-up for Calvert-Lewin. On the Inside Elland Road pod, Smyth doesn’t think Adam Underwood, the 49ers or Farke could have seen Calvert-Lewin playing this well.

MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES

“He puts himself right in between centre-backs, and gets up in the air, has a cup of tea, puts his hair oils in and then he heads it in. He just stays there for an incredible amount of time. Four goals in four games.

“I don’t think anyone saw this being anywhere near as good as it has been. Leeds may claim it, but I don’t think I’d buy that. Even they won’t have seen him playing this much football, and become so important.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin chose Leeds over many massive clubs

There was a mixed reaction when Calvert-Lewin joined. Many were worried he is past it, many were worried about his injury record and many were worried that actually, he was just a one-season wonder.

He is ridiculing those beliefs. Paul Robinson reminded fans that Calvert-Lewin is only 28, which is often forgotten. Now, Leeds fans will be delighted that Leeds convinced Calvert-Lewin, and he chose Leeds.

Especially, considering Calvert-Lewin chose Leeds over a massive offer worth £18m from Fenerbahce, and interest from Manchester United, Milan and Newcastle. It seems Leeds and Calvert-Lewin are a good fit.
