A nan “wants out” after weeks of “arguments” with her landlord over a leaky roof has caused “horrendous anxiety.” Carol Spencer says her home should be her “safe haven” however a leak, which turned into weeks of a “living nightmare” for the 73-year-old nan, struck her down.
Ms Spencer, from Huyton, first spoke to the ECHO around two weeks ago and reported how she returned home to Milner Court in Huyton on November 19 to find a small leak in her living room, next to the skylight in her ceiling. She reported the leak to her landlord, Livv Housing Group, and claims she was told someone would come and take a look at the issue.
Despite a number of workmen coming out to her property by December 6 the leak still hadn’t been fixed and had spread from her living room into her two bedrooms.
She complained to Livv Housing Group and contacted the ECHO to report on the issue. At the time Ms Spencer said: “There is cold all through my flat now, it’s all wet and damp, you can feel it in the air. It’s caused me to be so ill and I’m not usually a sickly person but I’ve felt terrible. I’ve been full of cold because of it.”
The ECHO contacted Livv Housing Group who said it was investigating the issue through its formal complaints process and confirmed the repair is ongoing, with further work scheduled for December 9.
Yesterday (December 16), Ms Spencer says the work was “finally” completed, almost one month after she first reported it to the landlord and after she’d reportedly contacted the organisation on a number of occasions to complain about the lack of repairs.

She claims her flat now needs redecorating because the leak has damaged her walls and ceilings. She also says the issue has caused her “serious anxiety.”
The nan told the ECHO today: “It’s been horrendous.” She said: “Someone came out a few days after the ECHO first reported my story to spray something on the leaks to stop any mould.
“Then someone turned up without notice yesterday to fix the leak and do the repairs. It’s got much worse since it was first reported, the damp has spread right across my living room and bedrooms now and has spread down my walls, I’m going to have to redecorate.”
The nan claims if the leak had been repaired when she first reported it to Livv Housing Group it wouldn’t have caused any damage to her property. She says the “constant arguments and phone calls” with Livv Housing Group has caused her “anxiety”.

She said: “All I’ve done is argue and be on the phone, it’s made me ill, I’m full of anxiety and I’m just constantly worried my health is going to deteriorate, I’ve had breast cancer before and I’m scared it’s going to affect my health. I’m worried about going out in case I come back to more damage or leaks.
“I feel awful, I’m still full of cold. My daughter has been so worried about me. My flat is supposed to be my safe heaven but it’s made me ill, I don’t want to live here, I don’t want to be here at all, moving here was the worst decision, I just keep thinking what will be next.”
A spokesperson for Livv Housing Group, said: “We know about the issue at Milner Court and recognise the impact on those affected. We are working to address this, some repairs have already been carried out, with further works required to fully resolve the issue. We remain in regular contact with the customer on the progress of the repair and will continue to support them until everything is completed.”
