If there was one complaint that you could have leveraged at Apple, it was how similar iPhones have looked across generations. But Apple’s biggest design change yet could be coming to the iPhone 20.
The leaks around the 20th anniversary iPhone come from a report from The Information , which also tipped the roadmap for 30 upcoming Apple devices. In a similar manner to the iPhone X back in 2017, it looks like Apple is skipping the iPhone 19. That’s not the only part that’s changing, though, as the phone is expected to feature a massive design revamp.

According to rumors, Apple is looking to create an edge-to-edge curved display that wraps around all four edges of the phone. Apple is also rumored to be replacing the titanium frame with a narrow metal band around the middle of the device.

It’s an interesting concept, but you may be wondering how that would work when it comes to buttons. We may have an answer, as a patent found in October suggests that the iPhone 20 will actually be button-free. In the patent, the power volume up/down and action buttons have all been upgraded to solid-state buttons that are incorporated as part of the frame. The phone is also rumored to feature an under-display camera in place of the Dynamic Island notch.
Curved displays look great, but there are issues

As a concept, it’s interesting to see Apple looking for such a radical design change, but some issues need to be addressed. First and foremost, there’s the question of durability, as curved displays have a larger surface area that is more prone to damage when dropped. These issues can be exacerbated due to the challenge of applying decent screen protectors, something we saw with the numerous curved-display phones that have launched in the past several years.
Another potential issue has to do with the inclusion of under-display cameras in general. Apple wouldn’t be the first company to include the technology, but many phone makers — like Samsung — have dropped the design in later phones due to how it affects the image quality. Despite that, rumors indicate that Apple is planning to feature under-display cameras in both the iPhone 18 and the rumored iPhone Fold. So it’s possible that the company found a solution.
The iPhone 20 is still almost two years away according to the rumors, so it’s best not to take anything as certain just yet. But let us know what you would like to see from the future of Apple as we head into 2026.
