Police and emergency crews raced to an Asda car park in Greater Manchester on Thursday evening (December 18) following reports of a serious incident.

Officers attended the car park outside the supermarket on Greenfield Lane in Shaw and taped off a large area. Multiple police vehicles were in attendance at around 8pm along with ambulances and incident response vehicles. Traffic officers were also at the scene.

Videos and pictures shared across social media on Thursday night showed a section of the car park taped off. Eyewitnesses claimed the store had also closed due to the incident and that an evidence screen had been erected amid investigations.

One person who had been shopping at the supermarket told the Manchester Evening News that multiple police officers were blocking routes into the car park and responding to an incident shortly after 8pm.

“I was parked right next to it. When I came out there was a screen up and police were blocking the routes in,” another said. A large emergency services presence remained at the scene late into Thursday evening.

The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police were contacted for further details but have not yet responded.
