An investigation is underway after a man tried to grab a child’s arm on a major commuting route.

The four-year-old infant was walking with a female along Bristol Road South in Longbridge when they were approached by a male, around 11.30am today.

The man then attempted to grab the child’s arm but was stopped by the woman.

He is then said to have fled towards McDonalds.

The child was not injured and West Midlands Police are supporting the child and their family as try to trace the person involved.

CCTV is being reviewed and officers have been speaking to people in the area as our investigations continue.

Insp Matt Shaw from Birmingham Police, said: “We understand how distressing the incident will be to the community but rest assured we are taking this incredibly serious.

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity at the time to speak to us if you haven’t already.

Anyone who saw happened or has door-bell, CCTV or dashcam footage is being urged to contact the force immediately.

“We’d ask everyone in the area to support us by coming forward with any information they may have and to check door-bell cameras or dashcams in their cars, for any footage which may assist our enquiries.

“We have stepped up our patrols in the area. If you see officers out and about and have any concerns please speak to us.”
