An investigation is underway after a death at HMP Manchester, also known as Strangeways prison.
Michael Harrison died in late November, it’s been confirmed. He was 34.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO), which investigates all prison custody deaths, has now published a brief note confirming limited details.
The PPO, which confirmed an independent investigation was now underway, said Mr Harrison died on November 22 this year.

His name and date of birth are confirmed, but no further details have been provided, other than listing the ‘establishment’ as HMP Manchester, commonly known as Strangeways.
The investigation status is listed as ‘in progress’. No further details have been revealed.
It’s not known whether Mr Harrison was serving a sentence or on remand at the prison.
HMP Manchester is a category A and B high-security men’s prison on the outskirts of Manchester city centre.
