Nathan Mason will turn to coaching in 2026, after it was announced that the former Leigh Leopards prop will lead Waterhead Warriors in the NCL next year.
Mason, who made his senior debut with Huddersfield in 2013, played for the Claret and Gold outfit 46 times, across two stints. He has also spent time in the second tier with Sheffield, Halifax and Bradford.
He was part of Leigh’s initial return to Super League in 2021, and made eight appearances for the side that year, as they were relegated to the Championship.
After not having his contract renewed by Bradford at the end of this season, he has turned from player to coach, and will lead Waterhead in the top flight of the community game.
Waterhead, who are based in Oldham, and was the amateur team of Kevin Sinfield, Barrie McDermott and more Super League stars, finished fourth in the competition this season, after being Champions in 2024.
His first game in charge will be in front of the TV cameras, as they enter the first round of the Challenge Cup. His side will take on Halifax-based Siddal ARLFC, who will be coached by Leeds Rhinos star Jake Connor next year.
