Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua have both been suspended from boxing after their fight in Miami, as is mandatory following such a contest. Paul will not be allowed to box again for at least a month after being stopped by Joshua in the sixth round
The Florida Athletic Commission sanctioned the controversial fight that developed into something of a farce but it enforces the rules of the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports. The fight lurched from embarrassing to outright boring as Paul used evasive tactics for most of the contest, regularly throwing himself to the floor and offering nothing.
Joshua eventually pinned his man down, flooring the YouTuber in the fifth round before the contest was stopped in the sixth.
Paul and Joshua will be assessed by a physician and required to enter a mandatory seven-day resting period upon conclusion of the fight, starting today. A technical knockout typically results in an automatic 30-day suspension, preventing a fighter from any type of boxing activity for that period, but Paul could be banned for double, or even triple, that amount of time given the beating he eventually took.
It is believed Paul broke his jaw in the contest.
“I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years. I’ll take some time off. This is amazing,” he said.
“We will heal the broken jaw, come back and fight people my weight.
“Anthony Joshua is a great fighter, I got beat but that’s what this sport is about. I will come back and keep on winning.
“I just got tired. It was a lot handling his weight. If I had better cardio I think I could have kept on fighting. I did my personal best.”
