Hibernian midfielder Josh Mulligan has addressed reports that he could leave the club as Leeds United and several other suitors monitor his progress.

Josh Mulligan has made a significant impression in his first season with Hibernian, having joined the club from Dundee in the summer.

The 23-year-old has caught the eye of several clubs in England and Europe, with Leeds linked with a move for the talented midfielder.

Hibs manager David Gray attempted to quash any suggestion that Mulligan was considering a move away from the club recently, with Nottingham Forest also reportedly interested in his signature.

Speaking to the press, via the Hibernian YouTube Channel, prior to Hibs’ game against Dundee United, Mulligan attempted to flat-bat any conversation about a move away from the club.

Asked how he felt about the links with English clubs, the playmaker said: “I was obviously rumoured when I was at Dundee.

“And that was quite difficult when you’re playing for Dundee, and there’s a lot of other teams that are [interested], and I think I dealt with it well then.

Leeds United transfer target dreaming of World Cup place

Leeds have a long association with the Scottish national side, with the likes of Billy Bremner, Peter Lorimer, Gordon Strachan and, more recently, Liam Cooper all representing the Tartan Army.

Mulligan currently has 16 caps for Scotland’s under-21 side, but he is yet to make his senior debut for the national side.

With Scotland set to take part in their first World Cup since 1998 this summer, Mulligan admitted he is keen to take his place in the squad, as he said: “You kind of put it to the back of your mind.

“But obviously, you find yourself thinking about it every now and then. But I think it’s just important that I focus on the games at Hibs. They’re the most important.

“If you’re going to think about it. If I can get on that plane, then that’s the most important thing. But right now, the most important thing is the games for Hibs.”
