Shocked residents have told how their quiet cul-de-sac was suddenly ‘lit up by blue lights’ as armed police rushed to the scene of a fatal stabbing last night.
Emergency services were called to a terraced home on Swanage Road in Small Heath after reports of a stabbing at 6.40pm yesterday, Saturday, December 20.
A man was given CPR by police and paramedics in a desperate attempt to save his life.

Sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A blue forensic tent had earlier been set up in the the garden of a home at the scene. Locals said that was where police found the victim.

A 28-year-old man was held by armed police. Police said the suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
He remains in custody.
One resident told BirminghamLive: “Our street was lit up by blue lights. It’s normally very quiet here.”
Another said he believed the house where the incident happened was an HMO.
A different local added: “It’s awful just before Christmas for this to happen. My heart goes out to the man’s family.”
Police forensic vans were parked in the middle of the street today, Sunday, December 21. A police officer stood guard outside a house.
A police spokesperson said: “A murder investigation is underway after we were called to reports of a stabbing at an address on Swanage Road, shortly after 6.40pm last night (20 Dec).
“Tragically, nothing could be done to save the man and he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“A man aged, 28, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
“We are in the early stages of our investigation, and a scene remains in place while we carry out urgent enquiries in the area to establish exactly what happened.
