A car burst into flames on a main road in south Manchester on Wednesday night (December 24). Police and fire crews attended the scene on Princess Road near Hulme at around 6pm.

Crews were called to reports of the car blaze and quickly attended the scene. Dramatic pictures showed the car alight in the middle of the road as congestion built in the area.

The fire service blocked the area and extinguished the fire, which caused damage to the vehicle. No injuries were reported in the incident.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 6pm this evening (Wednesday 24th December), one fire engine from Moss side fire station was called to reports of a vehicle fire on Princess Road, Manchester.

“The crew arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using a hose reel jet and specialist equipment to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.

“Firefighters have been in attendance for around thirty minutes and are still at the scene .”
