Finnair has cancelled two flights from Manchester Airport to Helsinki tomorrow due to strike action. The Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) has announced walkouts at Helsinki Airport on Friday, May 2 and Monday, May 5.
The airline warned that the industrial action “will affect many functions that are essential for Finnair’s flights during the day”.
As a result they have taken the decision to cancel several flights while those that do go ahead could be subject to delays.
Passengers have also been warned that short-haul flights that do go ahead may not be loaded with meals or baggage. The airline’s long-haul routes are not impacted.

According to Flight Radar, the 10.05am Finnair flight AY1362 to Helsinki and the 5.20pm Finnair flight AY1366 to Helsinki have both been cancelled from Manchester Airport.
The Manchester Airport website currently shows the Finnair flights departing on Monday, May 5 as scheduled to go ahead. The website Flight Aware shows that Finnair has cancelled 71 flights globally tomorrow.
In a statement on its website, Finnair said: “The Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) has announced work stoppages at Helsinki Airport on 2 and 5 May 2025. The industrial action on 2 May will affect many functions that are essential for Finnair’s flights during the day, such as aircraft maintenance, ground handling operations and catering services at Helsinki Airport.
“As a result, we must cancel several flights, and flight delays are also possible. Unfortunately, it is possible that some of the operated flights cannot be loaded with meals or baggage.
“On Finnair´s short haul flights, only water and juice are available in Economy Class, in Business Class also coffee and tea are served. Our long-haul flights are not impacted by the catering limitations.”
Finnair said it was “still assessing the impact on flights for May 5” and that passengers would be contacted personally via SMS and email if their flight is impacted. Passengers are urged to check their airport’s website for the latest information.
The airline said that passengers whose flights have been cancelled will be given a new travel plan with alternative flights, or they can contact Finnair’s customer service for a re-arranged flight.
Passengers who wish to no longer travel can cancel their flights and apply for a refund through the booking management system.
The airline added that those who need hotel accommodation due to the re-arranged flights and have already started their journey, will be offered hotel accommodation.
If you are flying on May 5 you can make changes to your travel date by contacting Finnair’s customer service.
